Blue Ridge Mountains Activities

Water Activities in the Blue Ridge Mountains

Our mountains offer an abundance of water activities from a lazy boat ride on the lake to riding the rapids on a class IV river! Let your water FUN begin here!

Tubing - float down the Toccoa River on a tube and enjoy the cool, clean water. Tube rentals are available as well as transportation to pick you up at the end of your ride.

Whitewater Rafting - for the more adventuresome folks we have rafting on two rivers. The Ocoee River was the site of the 1996 Olympic rafting venue. It has class III and IV rapids. The Nantahala River is a gentler ride that is recommended for seniors, beginners, or non-swimmers. Rafters must be 12 years old to raft the Ocoee or weigh at least 60 pounds to go down the Nantahala. Outfitters on both rivers provide safety gear, detailed instructions and guides. Reservations required. Call Adventure Reservations at 706-632-9704.

Boating - Lake Blue Ridge is an 11 mile long crystal clear lake surrounded by the mountains. There is a marina on the lake which offers pontoon boat rentals. Or bring your own boat or jet ski and keep it in a slip at the marina. There are boat ramps at various locations on the lake.

Swimming - Tica Swim and Racquet Club has a large club size swimming pool as well as a kiddie pool. This facility is available to guests of Tica Cabin Rentals 706-632-9704

Fishing - trout fishing is a popular sport in the mountains. Our area abounds with trout streams, some are even stocked by the government. Fightingtown Creek and the Toccoa River are world renowned for excellent trout fishing. Guided fly fishing trips are offered through Southern Sweetwater Anglers.  The guides are very knowledgeable and friendly.

Waterfalls - although not an action sport as those listed above, we would be remiss if we didn't mention the beautiful waterfalls in our area. Amicalola Falls is a favorite with visitors to our mountains. It is a short 45 minute drive from Blue Ridge through apple country. Anna Ruby Falls and Duke Creek Falls are also very scenic.

You can order a detailed map of the area by calling Adventure Reservations at 706-632-9704. Cost of the map is $5.50 plus postage.
